Takatsukasa Norihira (鷹司教平)

Norihira TAKATSUKASA (February 14, 1609 - November 7, 1668) was a Court noble who lived during the Edo period. His father was Nobuhisa TAKATSUKASA. His mother was Princess Sugako, the third daughter of Emperor Goyozei (the Edo period). His lawful wife was Princess Bunchi. Tamemitsu REIZEI's daughter was his concubine. He children included Fusasuke TAKATSUKASA, Kaneharu KUJO, Nobuko TAKATSUKASA (lawful wife of Tsunayoshi TOKUGAWA), Fusako TAKATSUKASA (second consort of Emperor Reigen), and Shunkai (adopted by Kaneharu KUJO). He called himself Icchiin (一致院). His one character names were Un (雲), Ken (謙), and Ko (公). He held the post of Dainagon (Major Counselor) and served in Konoefu (the Headquarters of the Inner Palace Guards). He rose to the rank of Juichii (Junior First Rank) on March 7, 1655.

Brief Personal History

He was born to Nobuhisa TAKATSUKASA in 1609. He held various posts such as Naidaijin (Minister of the Center) (1632), Udaijin (Minister of the Right) (1632 - 1640), and Sadaijin (Minister of the Left) (1640 - 1641). He died in 1668.

At one time during the early 18th century, with the exception of the Konoe family, all the heads of Sekkan-ke (the families which produced the Regent and the Chief Adviser to the Emperor) were taken up by Norihira's grandsons (Kanehiro TAKATSUKASA, Kaneka ICHIJO, Sukeie KUJO, and Tsunahira NIJO).
